Setion 32:
The Director may, after consultation with the appropriate local authorities and land boards, determine the number of animals of each species, or of a particular sex, that may be hunted during any season in any specified controlled hunting area, or any other specified area, and shall cause to be displayed a notice to this effect, at offices of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, and at such other places as he may determine.
Section 88. Directions by Minister
(1) Where he considers it in the public interest to do so, and in particular where he considers it necessary or expedient to do so in order to facilitate compliance by Botswana with CITES and any other international agreement to which Botswana is a party, or the discharge by Botswana of any other international obligation by which it is bound, the Minister may give directions, either generally or in a particular case, to all or any public officers, or to all or any wildlife officers or other persons appointed by him under this Act as to the carrying out of their functions or the performance of their duties under this Act, and any person to whom such directions are given shall comply therewith.
(2) Subject to the provisions of this Act and to any directions that may have been given to him by the Minister under subsection (1), where any person is vested by this Act with a power to allow, give consent to, grant, specify or revoke or cancel any matter or thing, that person may, without giving any reasons therefor and in his absolute discretion, allow or disallow, give or withhold consent, grant or not grant, specify or not specify, revoke or cancel or not revoke or cancel that matter or thing as he thinks most conducive to the public good:
Provided that nothing in this section shall be construed as referring to any function of or any power vested in any court by or under this Act.
Section 90. Power to suspend, etc. operation of Act
The Minister may, by order published in the Gazette, suspend, restrict or limit the application of any of the provisions of this Act, either generally or in respect of any area, for such period and subject to such conditions as he deems fit:
Provided that such suspension, restriction or limitation does not contravene the terms of CITES.
8.1.Under this Policy, Government's role will be limited to the promotion and facilitation of game ranching in the country. This includes creating a conducive environment for the private sector to take the lead in the game ranching industry. Nevertheless, there are certain responsibilities for the Government that pertain to the game ranching industry. For clarification, the specific roles of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks and the Department of Animal Health and Production in game ranching are provided below.
8.2 Responsibilities of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks
a) The approval and registration of game ranchers in accordance with the Wildlife Conservations and National Parks Act of 1992 and the regulations developed thereunder.
b)The monitoring of the operations of game ranches to ensure compliance with the Wildlife Conservations and National Parks Act of 1992 and the regulations developed thereunder.
c) The approval, monitoring and inspection of any wildlife holding and aution facilities.
d)To provide guidelines for the development of managment plans for game ranches and, where required, provide specific assistance in the development of such plans,
e) The provision of research, extension and training concerning game ranching.
f)The issuance of permits for live capture, export and import of wildlife.
g) The approval and licensing of any game capture outfit that operates, or wishes to operate, in Botswana.
h) The provision of wildlife quarantine facility in accordance with the guidelines and requirements of the Department of Animal Health and Prodution at a location that facilitate the movement of game in Botswana.
8.3. Responsibilites of the Department of Animal Health and Prodution:
a) To monitor and advise on animal health aspects in game ranches.
b) The provision of veterinary services on game ranches.
c) Collaborate with DWNP in the provision and operation of wildlife quarantine facilities, including the provision of vertinary services.
d) The issuance of veterinary permits for the movement, import and export of all wildlife species,
e)The approval and registration of wildlife veterinarians employes by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, game ranchers and game capture companies/orgnaisations.

Section 10 (extract):
(1) Subject to the provisions of this section, the Ombudsman may investigate any action taken by or on behalf of a —
(a) department of Government, in the exercise of administrative functions of that department –
(i) in any case where a complaint is made to the Ombudsman
by a person who claims to, or
(ii) on his or her own motion where he or she considers it necessary to investigate the action on the ground that a person has or may, have sustained injustice or unfair treatment in consequence of maladministration in connection with the action so taken; or
(b) department of Government or private entity –
(i) in any case where a complaint is made to the Ombudsman
by a person who claims to, or
(ii) on his or her own motion where he or she considers it
necessary to investigate the action on the ground that a
person has or may, have sustained violation of his or her human rights in consequence
of the action so taken.
(2) The Ombudsman may take appropriate action to call for
the remedying, correction and reversal of instances specified in subsection (1) through fair, proper and effective means, including —
(a) mediation, arbitration, negotiation, conciliation and compromise between the parties concerned; and
(b) causing the complaint and a finding on it, to be reported to the principal officer of any department of Government or a private entity and to a person who is established to have taken or authorised the action in question.
