Section 3:
Any person who-
(a) cruelly beats, kicks, ill-treats, over-drives, over-rides, over-loads, or tortures any of animal or causes any animal to be so used, or drives or uses any animal which is so diseased, or so injured, or in such a physical condition that it is unfit to do any work, or wantonly or unreasonably does or omits to do any act, or causes or procures the commission or omission of any act, causes any unnecessary suffering, or, being the owner, permits in any manner aforesaid, any unnecessary suffering to be caused to any animal;
(b) conveys or carries, or causes or procures, or being the owner permits, to be conveyed or carried, any animal in such a manner or position as to cause that animal any
unnecessary suffering;
(c) causes, procures or assists at the fighting of any animal or keeps, uses, manages, or acts or assists in the management of any premises or place used for the purpose or partly for the purpose of fighting any animal, or permits any premises or place so to be used, kept or managed, or receives, or causes or procures, any person to receive money for the admission of any person to such premises or place;
(d) without reasonable cause or excuse, administers, or causes or procures, or being the owner permits such administration of, any poisonous or injurious drug or substance to any animal, or, without any reasonable cause or excuse, causes any such substance to be taken by any animal; or
(e) subjects, or causes or procures, or being the owner permits to be subjected, any animal to any operation which is performed without due care and humanity,
shall be guilty of an offence and be liable to a fine not exceeding P50 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or to both.
Section 62 (extract):
(2) The export, import, transport through and re-export of animals listed under the Appendices to CITES, and any trophy, meat or eggs thereof shall be permitted only in accordance with the provisions of CITES, and before any permit is issued under subsection (3), the Director, as Management Authority in accordance with the terms of CITES, shall of Botswana require to be satisfied that-

(d) in the case of a live animal, all necessary steps have been taken to minimize the risk of injury, cruelty or damage to its health during transport or transshipment of the animal to its destination.

Section 81 (extract):
(1) No person shall keep or possess any live animals in confinement except only under and in accordance with a permit issued therefor by the Director:
Provided that this shall not apply to the temporary keeping or possession of a sick or injured animal for the purpose of affording it treatment, or to animals within private game farms, ranches or reserves surrounded by game proof fences, or to such animals and in such circumstances as may be specified in regulations and sold or kept as pets.

Section 5:
The Board shall advise the Minister on matters concerning-
(a) the development and improvement of the livestock industry;
(b) the development of farmed game;
(c) the provision of services in accordance with the needs of the livestock industry;
(d) the desirability of the establishment of a scheme for the evaluation and verification of the performance of animals with the object of improving the genetic production potential of those animals;
(e) the priorities in respect of research, and the co-ordinated utilisation of research facilities, in connection with the livestock industry;
(f) information services required for the livestock industry; and
(g) livestock genetic conservation matters.
