BACKGROUND

Country legal hubs are a user-friendly point of access to a comprehensive set of data and analysis on the statutory legal frameworks relating to sustainable management of wildlife and habitats. 

For the countries of the Sahelian wetland site (RESSOURCE Project), the analyses relate to the level of transposition into national law of two international legal instruments applicable to waterbirds and wetlands, namely the Ramsar Convention and the AEWA. 

Each platform provides:
•    historical and political background of the country;
•    access to relevant national normative texts by sector;
•    overview of the transposition of the two international instruments.

LEGAL AND POLITICAL CONTEXT

Sudan RESSOURCE map

Political system: Since the military coup d’état of 25 October 2021, Sudan has had no functioning government in place and there is a political vacuum. The UN-led broad consultations on a political process have found “visible” consensus on many issues, including on the need to end the violence, establish a technocratic Government and an oversight body, and adopt critical legislation. The UN, within its mandate, continues to support the process, with a civilian-led democratic government as the ultimate objective of the transitional period in Sudan.
