Regulation 8 (extract):
(1) An animal shall be identified as follows-
(a) in relation to cattle-
(i) in accordance with the Branding of Cattle Act, and
(ii) by the use of an animal identification device approved by the Director, placed on the animal at birth or before such animal is six months old; and
(b) in relation to an ostrich, by the use of a registered holding of origin and an approved individual animal identification.
(2) The Director shall develop an animal identification system for any other stock as and when it is required.

Section 6: (extract)
(1) Every zonal symbol shall be branded on cattle as follows-
(a) the first symbol shall be imprinted on the left side of the neck and shall be as near the angle of the jaw as possible;
(b) subsequent symbols shall be placed along a line drawn from the angle of the jaw to the point of the shoulder;
(c) each symbol shall be placed as close as possible to the symbol immediately preceding it; and
(d) when there is insufficient space for further symbols on the left side of the neck, symbols shall be placed, mutatis mutandis, on the right side of the neck.

(1) An animal shall be identified as follows-
(a) in relation to cattle-
(i) in accordance with the Branding of Cattle Act, and
(ii) by the use of an animal identification device approved by the Director, placed on the animal at birth or before such animal is six months old; and
(b) in relation to an ostrich, by the use of a registered holding of origin and an approved individual animal identification.
(2) The Director shall develop an animal identification system for any other stock as and when it is required.
Regulation 9 (extract):
(1) An animal identification device that may be used to identify the animal shall be as follows-
(a) a bolus;
(b) a digital ear tag; or
(c) an analogue ear tag.
Section 13 (extract):
(1) It shall be the duty of every person licensed under this Part within 72 hours after purchasing or otherwise acquiring any livestock and before removal of such livestock from the place of purchase or acquisition, to affix to each animal purchased or otherwise acquired the brand of which he is the registered proprietor,and for the purposes of this section the expression "brand" shall have the meaning assigned to it in section 2 of the Branding of Cattle Act:
Provided that the President may exempt persons licensed under section 9(1)(e) from the requirements of this section, and from the requirements of section 6(5).

(3) An owner or custodian shall not move an animal from one holding to another without having tagged such animal.
